It had been a long time since the sign last appeared so they had a big meeting to decide what to do.

It was like the whole village was waking from a dream…

The old people made the decision to do it the way it had been done for hundreds of years.

Getting the new folk to the village to agree was harder.

…but really they knew what they had signed up for when they moved to the village.

Once, my dad told me about the last time the witches had left their sign…

It was a girl from his class in school. They picked her in a lottery.

All the girls in the village had to line up and take a ticket.
